Mounts As Gear

Overview

The philosophy here is to treat mounts as pieces of equipment rather than as extra critters on the battlefield. Much like a character doesn't often get their sword broken or their armor chinked, people don't get their mount destroyed.

Encumbrance

Encumbrance here is measured in "slots." One slot is about 15 lbs of equipment. A character can hold one Slot per point of Strength. A "normal" gear consists of a backpack (2 slots), 2 waterskins (1 slot, filled), and a belt with 4 pouches (2 slots), giving an STR 8 character 8 slots to fill. A higher STR character might add pouches or backpacks. On average, Light Armor takes up 1 slot, Medium Armor takes up 2 slots, and Heavy Armor takes up 4 slots. A character personally usually weighs between 8 and 12 slots.
