1st-level enchantment
Casting Time 1 action
Range 90 feet
Components V, S, M (a candle you extinguish with the casting of the spell)
Duration Concentration, up to 10 minutes.
This spell causes afflicted creatures to slowly fade into a peaceful slumber. To cast this spell, you must speak, but it can be as low as a whisper. You can choose one target in range, but you cannot target a creature that is hostile or actively engaged combat or another life-threatening activity. That target must make a Wisdom save. If the target succeeds on the save, nothing happens. If the target fails, they become listless and sluggish, beginning to fall asleep.
Each round you concentrate, the target grows sleepier and sleepier. The target must make a Wisdom save each round you maintain Concentration, and as it fails more saves, it succumbs slowly to the spell as shown below. A successful save means the target doesn't progress any farther, but it does not end the spell, or your concentration. If a creature makes three successful saves, this casting of the spell cannot affect them any further, but their current conditions (if any) remain for as long as you concentrate. If your concentration ends, or the creature becomes hostile or engages in combat or some other stressful activity, the casting ends, and all effects of the spell immediately end.

At Higher Levels: For each spell level after 1st, you can affect one more creature. For instance, if you cast this spell at 5th level, you can affect 5 creatures.
You may instead opt to increase the tenacity of the spell by casting it with a higher-level slot, adding 1 to the number of saves that must be made before a target cannot be affected for each spell level after 1st. For instance, if you cast this spell at 4th level, you can require that a target must make 6 saves before they cannot be affected by a single casting of this spell.
You can combine these effects: if you cast the spell at 3rd level, for instance, you can affect two creatures and require them both to make 4 saves before they cannot be affected by a single casting of the spell.
